Girls & Noise
Something of an inconic band, an iconic artist, & a great tee…
We recently released a great tape, Leeeanne, by Mallory Linehan (Chelsea Bridge), which deservedly sold out rather sharply. I’ld become aware of Mallory’s work at the beginnings of our distro, when she released with No Rent Records, who we’ve stocked for a good while now, & we discussed a tape for Industrial Coast when, alongside Bob Hatt, Mallory provided an amazing version of Dirt Poor & Mentally Ill for the Mike IX/Eyehategod tribute tape
Having released a number of female artists previously (Sara Ohm, Jo Montgomerie, Betty White Noise to name 3), and stocked via our distro the likes of the astonishing Evicshen, Bacon Grease & (a personal favourite) Havadine Stone, it struck me that there’s something different about the work they put out. I may well be imagining that, but anyhow, I tentatively asked Mallory if she thought a female only compilation would be a good idea, or all rather twee. We decided it was a good idea &, I think, what we’ve come up with confirms we were right!
So, the artists involved:
Sara Ohm, Evicshen, Tears/OV, Bacon Grease, Jo Montgomerie, Bacon Grease, And Lace (Mallory + Fetter), LDSN, The Clumsy Giantess, Dim Garden, Nail Club, Ecclesiarch, T I N A, Havadine Stone, Jen Kutler, Opal X, Mama Matrix & Silvia Cignoli (I don’t think I’ve missed anyone)
I’ve got nearly all the tracks on hand - & it sounds as good as it looks on paper! Drones, electronics, lo fi punk, field recordings, noise &, well, some left field weirdness!
I’m sure you’ll know a number of the artists involved - those you don’t, hopefully you’ll realise what you’ve been missing…one of the great things about the compilations we pull together
I couldn’t be more pleased with this - a huge thanks to all the artists who have been super supportive from the start & who have turned round tracks in a relatively short time. And of course to all those who pre ordered even though the tape won’t be ready until October end. I’m not a huge fan of lengthy pre-orders (its bad enough I ask you all to wait on distro deliveries from the US…thankfully coming through quicker of late), but we did it this time as all profit is to go to World Central Kitchen, & specifically their Hurrican Ida appeal. I made a donation upfront, as time was of the essence, & can confirm final donations will be circa the $400 mark. I’m really proud of the material the label puts out - but prouder that we manage to make such donations to those less fortunate. I’ll try & continue to walk it like I talk it (for way too long, I must admit, I just talked)
We sold out in less than a week. However, when the physicals are ready, there will be very limited numbers at Rwdfwd (UK) & Torn Light (US) so keep them peeled if you missed it & hit those two stores quick when the tapes appear
Putting my salesmans hat on, in our distro we have odd copies of Havadine Stone & Bacon Grease releases in stock (American Dreams & Popnihill label sections respectively) alongside a recent LDSN tape on Industrial Coast - mop them up! And do check the bandcamps of all the respective artists…each and everyone of them is deserving of your support
What else is happening?
2 new releases from ourselves this week. Junk noise from Tantric Death (Deathbed Tapes, Serrated etc) & The Beat Up by The Miillion (an eclectic, scuzzed up club vibe from South Yorkshire). 2 crackers
Mid West Weird is coming! A series of releases very loosely affiliated to the Mid West & free jazz. Inspired by my love of the Crazy Doberman gang, I’ve got 3 or 4 submissions complete…but am waiting on everything to be on hand before we proceed, as the releases will be ‘linked’, with discounts for full set buys etc. I can say, its looking great (yes, I’m biased, I know that)
And the Radio Topo tapes are in! A great series from Torn Light - exclusive to us outside of the US. Very limited, very few left (apart from Soviet Wave - sorry, all gone)
Soon - a big drop from Astral Spirits, lathe cuts from enmossed & that Rave Sound System compilation from us I’ve been promising (that may be soonish, rather than soon) - plus Koufar cassettes from Phage
There we go - as always, feedback welcome, discussion points, distro suggestions, charities you would like to see us support down the line, anything you like really…I’ll try to be as open & accomodating as possible
Have a great weekend - & buy tapes (& CDs, did I mention we stock CDs?)
