I’m going to break my one post per week rule this weekend. The general post with information on new releases, distro updates etc will be Sunday
White Ribbon UK is part of the global White Ribbon movement to end male violence against women
“…the leading charity that is ending male violence against women by engaging with men and boys to make a stand against violence”
https://www.whiteribbon.org.uk/
This weekend we will run one of our bundle offer series - both IC & Distro titles, batched up & sold at drastically reduced prices. All proceeds (proceeds, not profit) from this weekend’s deals will be donated to White Ribbon
You get used to grim news. It seems to be never ending. Here in the UK, the tragic case of Sarah Everard is truly horrific
Without wishing to trawl through everything, some points:
The police officer responsible was in a misogynistic whatsapp group, with other officers, sharing violent pornographic images
Not all of those officers have been suspended while investigations are pending
The officer responsible had indecently exposed himself in a fast food restaurant 3 days prior to the case. His warrant card had not been withdrawn while investigations were pending
Some ‘advice’ (from people in authority) to women following the conviction…flag down a bus if you don’t trust an officer. Understand the law better. Could this be more condescending if they tried?
Women were also told to report ‘harrassment’ as it will be taken seriously. In the UK, 1 in 60 rape cases lead to prosecution. 1 in 60. Let that sink in…& then take the quantum leap of faith that the authorities will take harrassment seriously
Over time, racism became less socially acceptable (without ever going away - & yes, I know its rearing its ugly head), then homophobia. My take is that sexism & misogyny is still a trait of being one of the lads. Its not. Its shit
I have a 12 yr old daughter. I don’t want her to grow up having to plot ingenious routes home for fear of abuse, verbal or physical. Why should she have to adjust her life to such an extent because (male) society can’t get to grip with its long standing issues. Its not Lily’s problem to solve, its ours
Things only change if we push for those changes. Lets start pushing with all our might. Feel free to avail yourself of a bundle offer - if not, do look up White Ribbon & other like minded charities (we support https://www.mysistersplace.org.uk/ on an ongoing basis)
See you tomorrow - there’ll be info, pictures and even a couple of bad jokes in that one
Steve
100% with you on this. Still astounds me that I feel like I spend too much time telling people to fuck off because of their opinions of women. A couple of recent examples.
"She's a blonde, what do you expect" "Well if she dresses like when she goes out she's asking for trouble" Just yesterday, my father in law asked where Morag was because he needed a cup of coffee made. I know none of these examples are anywhere near as serious as others, but it's just a sign that the 'good old days' aren't as old as we like to think.
